Enjoying waking to the sounds of birds chirping…I’ve missed that!
Thinking of creative possibilities….
Enjoying my morning coffee….
I’m not much of a card player, but stumbled upon these
this morning and can’t believe how adorable they are!

I’ve been trying to blog every day, so sometimes this is the
content you get….just something that caught my eye.
Have a great day!
So many great videos this morning.
I promise you, these are feel good videos,
but they might bring a tear to your eye.
With his short gray hair, watchful eyes, authoritative
voice and stern manner, high school math teacher
and veteran Jim O'Connor is used to commanding
respect in the classroom. So his students were
surprised to learn about his nickname at the
hospital where he volunteers: the baby whisperer.
A 95-year-old veteran in full dress uniform came
outside on the street to encourage and cheer
runners in an 8K race but the admiration was
turned on himself when the athletes began
spontaneously shaking his hand in a tribute
for his military service. A San Jose reporter
happened to capture the scene on video as
Joe Bell became inundated with runners wanting
to shake his hand.
I’ve had this blog for several years now, and I thought over
that time I had shared all of the rugs I’ve made, but by searching
the blog I discovered I have never shared this rug.
(you can click on the rug to see it larger)
Kenny used to collect Smokey Bear and I made this rug
for him as either a birthday or Christmas present, I can’t
remember which. I do remember that I hooked it on the sly,
so as soon as he would leave for work on Saturdays I would
pull this rug out of the trunk of my car and hook like a mad woman
while he was at work and then store it back in the trunk before
it was time for him to be home.
It’s hooked from mainly recycled wools, I
remember that his cheeks are from a Pendleton shirt and
the shovel is from a few blazers. The bluejay is also from
a Pendleton shirt. Funny, how it can be YEARS ago and yet
I can still remember these odd bits of trivia about a rug hooked
so many years ago.
I was new to dyeing and I dyed the mustard colored wool in
his hat and also the green background.
It’s been in our bedroom for years in front of the
Oh yeah, this was hooked in the days before I had a proper
frame….it was hooked entirely on a quilting hoop!
Lonnie was feeling left out, so here is a picture of him
peering out the same window, wondering when Kenny
is going to get home.
It’s always such a nice sight to pull in the driveway and have
two little heads peering out at you
Well, I started stitching down the back of the fish rug and got
about half way around and decided to take a break and knit
for a while on the socks or should I say sock and watch the
You’ve just got to love seeing all the celebrities in all of their finery!!
There were SO MANY beautiful gowns last night I couldn’t even
come close to picking my favorite. Here are a few I loved….
Did you have a favorite?
Also, if you watched, did you hear Jared Leno’s acceptance
I’ve been plugging away and listing more rug hooking and
wool related items on eBay, so if you are looking for
patterns to work on, go check out what I’ve got by
clicking below. Right now there are some penny rug patterns
and rug hooking patterns. Who knows, I might add something
else during the week.
What better thing to do on a cold and icy day
than bind a rug.
Must admit, this is not my favorite activity when
making rugs, but I’m always glad to have it finished.
I prefer to use wool covered cording for my rugs…
I cover the cording with wool using the zipper foot on my
sewing machine (yes, I drug it down from the top shelf
in the closet), then I hand sew it to the rug.
Once it’s sewn on, then I go back and tack the excess wool down
with T-pins in the back
and then hand sew around the edges of the wool.
Hope to get this finished today, so I can move on to the
I have many “unfinished” projects calling my name right now…
knitted socks (even if I could finish 1 of them would be great)
penny rug that needs to be stitched into a pillow (it has a spring
theme, so hopefully I can get on that next….it should be quick if
I would just take the time to sit down and work on it)
moose rug/pillow that I started
Here’s a gratuitous picture of Buzzbee looking out the window as
Kenny left to go run some errands…..he’s such a cutie!
He’s been a great addition to our home!
